Are there many Class of '62 remaining in the ole stomping ground? I haven't been back for so many years I can't remember the last.

Living in Phoenix, I have forgotten how cold winters can be and wonder how I survived. I can remember my freshman year at Laramie- got down to -54 for a week. Of course, it gets above +100 here for weeks.

I was born in Riverton in 1963. I am from the family of the Fuller's and Dalley's. I have wonderful memories of Riverton and miss it so much. We moved when I was in 3rd grade, but would visit every year because our relatives lived there. Since my Grandparents have passed on, I haven't been back for 8 years. I am really missing it there. My best friend that had lived next door to me was Jackie Baltes. She still lives in Riverton.

Subject: Another old timer

Good grief. I'm too old to remember Wally. But I remember a hangout called the Alamo down by the railroad bridge. I also remember crossing over the big irrigation ditch by the high school - not on the bridge but on a log or a board somewhere north of the bridge. Too bad it's covered up. The ditches were great. I learned to ice skate on a smaller one. Ice cream sodas at the Temple Drug after school made the long walk home a whole lot easier. Summer band was great fun - especially dressing in my bluejeans, a white shirt and a cowboy hat and playing for rodeos and horse shows at the fair grounds and for community concerts at the old band stand in the park. That charming white bandstand was was high above the onlookers and made us feel so important. I remember dancing on Main Street to drummers from the rez. I occasionally go to a Wisconsin pow-wow just because it reminds me of home. (Saw the Arapaho dancers at the Riverton city park in summer 2000 - terrific show and very informative.) As a child I sometimes slept outdoors in our front yard. The stars were incredibly bright. I seldom saw an airplane and there was no traffic roar. From our place we could walk east of town down to the river. No fences and no garbage dump. I don't miss frostbiting my legs on the walk up high school hill but then students nowdays are probably more sensible. Wearing skirts, thin black flat shoes and no stockings in below-zero weather was pretty dumb but it was "in" and that was soooo important. Ice skating on a flooded pond in the park - probably about where the unused swimming pool is now - was fun except for the day I froze both backsides while sitting on the bank. Sure was nice when someone finally built a warming house. Had a great time decorating my balloon-tired, one-speed bike with crepe paper and riding in 4th of July parades with the Girl Scouts. We made smores before they were called smores. Yum! Also, I fondly remember those who sang in Alice Stouffer's choir at the Methodist church - and the quiet times around the fireplace in the basement of what is now the museum.

My name is PHILIP Simonson. I went to Jefferson School in 5th and 6th grades and then on to Riverton Junior High School.

My family resided at 119 North 9th West cornering Fremont Street. This is the area I had a newspaper route for the Denver Post which I delivred on my red bicycle.

After the last paper was delivered each day, I would often go treat myself to an ice cold root beer at the A&W stand about a block away from where I lived.

A couple of my friends at the time included Ed Novotny, Steve Tipton, Juan Pacheco, Danny Moore and Patrick Holtz.

I adored my piano teacher Rene Fitzgerald who taught in her home on Park Street.

I dated Carolyn Kenyon Garrett, whos mother had a beauty salon near Marty's Market. The last I heard, Carolyn is living in Worland.

I loved going to the ACME theatre Every friday night and often to the matinaes on Saturday afternoons and then about 10 years later when living in Hollywood, California - started meeting some of the same people I had seen on the movie screen of the ACME Theatre. ( I can still smell the buttered popcorn cooking in the lobby).

Had my family not moved to California, and stayed in Riverton, I would have graduated from Riverton High School in 1967.

Hello!

My name is Phil Adcock. I was born in Riverton in August of 1959 in the old Fremont Clinic on Broadway. I was raised in Riverton and left in 1979 when I joined the Army. I now live in Springfield Missouri where I have my own computer based business. I am also close to finishing up a degree in pastoral ministries.

My Dad worked out in the Gas Hills for almost 30 years. He started back when there were still no mines or mills... he surveyed for Lucky Mac. Later he operated heavy equipment. He was a big fellow, and gained the nickname "Heavy." He passed away in July of 1991.

I went to Lincoln Elementary until my parents bought a house over on the other side of town. I went to the sixth grade at Ashgrove. Of course RJHS was next... I attended high school in the old building on Main Street. did attend a few classes out in the Career Center.

My memories of Riverton are many. For instance, I still remember the street carnivals they used to have on the corner of Broadway and Main... going back toward Burleson Drug. I remember how much I loved eating the mutton burgers they served from the old sheep herder's wagon there. I remember when the old First National Bank building was turquoise in color. I remember the HUGE selection of penny and nickel candies they had for sale at Pay 'n Save. I remember sleeping all night in City Park with my Grandpa so we could be one of the first in line for antelope permits.

I remember walking home late one night after closing Taco John's (where I worked) in the most beautiful snow storm... it was completely silent... the streets were empty... the snow flakes where huge and wafted downward from the sky... It was one of the most beautiful moments I remember. I remember so many people... some good memories... some not so good... but all working together to shape the person I am today.

I'm married now to the most wonderfully sweet and precious lady on earth! We have five children (three girls and two boys). My oldest daughter is already in college... and life is slipping past now faster than I care to admit. Maybe that's why I still visit Riverton in my memories... and now here on the internet...

I don't know you, but I was in the class of 1965. I lived in Riverton from 2 yrs of age until I graduated from the University of Denver in 1969. I remember the Acme theater, Gem Theater, West Drive in and the Knight Drive in. I also remember when the middle school opened up (a junior high school then). I was on student council and helped come up with the nickname, Spartans. My father E.E. Van Velson taught Band for 31 years there and recently passed away in 1999. I haven't made it back to any of the class reunions for a long while, so it was nice to see this site on the Internet. Hi Mike, I don't know you, but I think the web site is great. I miss Riverton allot. My name is Carla Kottcamp, Callahan. I graduated1980 the old school the year before they knocked it down, it was condemned the whole time I attended.

The class of 80 is having our reunion this year at the Holiday Inn in Riverton during the weekend of Aug. 11th, 12th and 13th. I just wanted to let people know this through your web site, as they cannot locate some of us. This may help some of my class mates know about the reunion that our organizers cannot find.

I have very fond memories of RHS and Riverton I remember all of the kegs and party's at peoples houses, and the cops coming and breaking up things, and us just moving to another place. The four wheeling and sitting out of town on the ridge and just watching cars go by on their way to Dubois. I miss boating out at Boysen Reservoir. And senior skip day.

I miss Woolsworth, I used to eat lunch their with my dad Carl Kottcamp, he owned H & R Block at the time and it was just a walk away, well everything was just a walk away.

Well I hope my contacting you will help some of my people know about the reunion.

Subject: I remember beautiful Dubois

It was 20 years ago that my husband and I drove to Dubois from Omaha, Nebraska to go backpacking in the beautiful Dubois area. His family had done the same trip over many different summers. I caught my first fish in the mountain stream! Three years later we went back again, only this time I stayed at base camp with our toddler. That same toddler is now 19 years old, and has been back there to backpack with his uncle (his father died of brain cancer when he was six). I remarried and have lived in Charlotte, North Carolina for over ten years, but will never forget the beauty and all of the wonderful memories we had in Dubois, Wyoming.

I'm trying to type this with a much-too-big puppy sleeping on my lap, so please forgive any typos! My husband and I currently live in Golden, Colorado (within sniffin' distance of Denver). He is a native, I moved out her in 1993 from a small town in NY (there was a population of 4000 which doubled to 8000when the state college was in session, which was pretty much all the time)

We are actually looking to move to Riverton, which is how I came across your site. Great site, by the way! We have long yearned for some place that is cleaner, friendlier and quieter than Colorado. Wyoming has always been a place we admired (never met a mean Wyoming person!). We like the no-speeding attitude! (Everyone here goes at LEAST 10 mph over the speed limit) We also liked the fact that there are less people inall of Wyoming, than there is just in the Denver area! So--God willing, we will be moving soon. "We" consists of our new 9-week old Gordon/EnglishSetter pup, and two cats. We have a mobile homehere--haven't decided whether to sell it or move it.Any suggestions on what town paper to get if we are interested in employment ads? (we are starting an internet business but we'll needjobs until we get up and running) Any miscellaneous tips, advice or comments are ppreciated! Thanks for your time,

Great Riverton page. I live in upstate eastern New York but was born in Riverton September 11, 1930 at 119 North First at the home of my grandparents, A.B. & Laura Conant. My brother, Byrd Elwood, now owns the house. I was the daughter of Max & Blanche Elwood. My dad farmed and Mom taught school first at Arapahoe and then Riverton. Grandpa and Grandpa Conant owned ABC Creamery and Conant's Cash Grocery (which later became Pollard's owned by Aunt Gertrude and Uncle Paul Pollard). Grandpa Conantserved as mayor of Riverton in the late 1930s or early 40s and later as a County Commissioner. I graduated from RHS in 1948, then attended the University of Wyoming at Laramie until I was married in 1950 to Donald Larmon a graduate of the University of Wyoming. Mike:
I'm an old timer, I remember the Knight Drive in theater with amusement park, and the Acme theater where Tommy Knight used to have a cash drawing on wednesday nights, it drew in a packed house. Also, remember Pop Logan's popcorn wagon at the corner of Main and Broadway. There used to be two pool halls on main street and a drug store that served great sundays and soft drinks.

I grew up at Crowheart and used to travel with my folks to Riverton to buy groceries on saturdays, while my folks were shopping I would go to the afternoon movie at the Acme (Tommy Knight threw out kids that made alot of noise). Movies in the 50's were about the atomic age and people from outer space in black and white of course. We would go to the Cozy Corner Cafe on Main street for supper. And as we left town the Sky Club at the airport was packed to the hilt with partygoers.My mom, bless her soul, passed away a year ago (Marguerite Snyder) used to write the Crowheart Roundup column for the Riverton Ranger.

I travel to Riverton periodically to visit my parents gravesite and meet with the Shoshone and Arapaho Tribes as I am the Washington Office Liaison Officer for the Department of the Interior's Indian Affairs stationed in Denver.

My name is Dale Pew. I used to live in Riverton and have many memories of my family living in your town. I used to manage the Pamida Discount Store and then worked in Gas Hills for a time. We owned a house there in Riverton and loved it there and someday want to come back to the community. We now live in Riverside, California. I am coming to the Riverton area in mid October for a month or so, to hunt. I'm looking for a cabin or home to rent for this period. I've stayed in motels and camped on previous visits, neither of which are very comfortable for this period of time. My wife might be with me for part of the time and I have a dog. I have been up therebefore a few times, but I am bringing with me my boyfriend of almost three years now. He has never been out of the state of Texas, minus the two trips to Shreveport LA, but I really don't count that! He thinks that the 3ft. hills around here are "mountains"! I discovered last year that my great great grandfather is buried in Riverton's "only cemetery" He was an elderly man when he emigrated from Scotland in the 1920's to stay with his daughter. He made his living by teaching violin and died sometime in the 30's. I'm planning to visit Yellowstone in August and hope to make a quick trip to Riverton and maybe find his grave. Just found you from the trib.com site. Hello!! Glad to see some hometown stuff again. Miss all of you and your fun. Rapid City isn't fun unless you have alot of money and we don't. I do not suggest any one who is half human to make the mistake of moving to SD. Every time you pay your taxes please keep in mind that 1/2 acre and an old trailer house has a tax bill of 900.00 per year. A real house, even a run down abandon house will run 1000.00 to 2500.00 depending on location. Thank God you have a say in taxation there. We do too, we get to whine orgroan and that's all.

This really exciting I went to school in Riverton in 1964-1967 came back in 1971 married and divorced a Riveton boy and in 1980 moved to Bryan Tx where I work at A&M University. My son and I have been trying to sign your guestpage but it is not transmitting so I thought I would send a message direct.

I am 32 and it has been almost 25 years since I attended Ashgrove Elementary (2nd) grade. Jansen is four in April. I remember some wonderful teachers like Mr. Arnold (math), Mrs. Graf (science) and Mrs. Williams (English). Any idea how they are doing? My parents still live in Thermopolis (Dave & Mary Joe) so Jansen and me will make our usual visit this spring. Anyway my two older brothers played football for Riverton in the 1970's and are proud Wolverines. My cousin Linda Brown is still a coach in Riverton. I own a small computer company here in Texas and Jansen is a full time kid at Belton daycare. It was good to visit Riverton Wyoming this evening.

I had him in the fifth gradeand i think the school was lincoln or jefferson i can't remember that was back in 1974-75 i believe. His name was Mr. Holt he taught reading at the time, i just wondered if he still taught or if he was even stillin Riverton. Leona Valley is part of theAntelope Valley located in the high desert ofSouthern California. We are about 60 miles northof Los Angeles. Subject: Moving to Wyoming

Hi! My name is Debbie Norton and (for the pastthree months) I have lived in Wilmington, NorthCarolina (right on the coast). I can walk out my front door and within a matter of seconds be on the coastal waterway. The weather is great,but its not me. I guess you can take the girl out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the girl. So, in two more months, I take off for Wyoming and desinations unknown. I'm not really sure where I will endup, but I do know that I have to be some where where cowboys, not surfers, prevail. I'm single, love the cowboy way of life, or least my image of that way of life as well as horses androdeos. I'm looking for a relatively small town. I have my own business, so work really is not an issue. If you can offer any words of wisdom in helping mefind my new home, please feel free to e-mail me.

I used to live in Riverton and moved away in1983. My father owned what was called Cam ComIII, and last I heard, it was still there. I've been curious to find out what happened to most of the kids I went to school with. I know Darren Bailey took over his dad's gas station and marriedTeri Davis (always had a soft spot for her, she was a good friend), but don't know what happened to the majority of the others. If you could letme know how I could look some of these people up, I would really appreciate it. I noticed that the Middle School had a page and I was impressed with what they are doing. I even recognized acouple of teachers I had when I attended there! As far asI can tell, there is nothing for the High Schoolor the like. By the way, I live in Dallas now.That may not qualify as being thefurthest, but compared to how I lived inRiverton it's like a whole different world. Does Starlite Lanes and Lounge still exist? My father also owned that place for awhile, but had a bad partner and sold his share of the place.

My husband and I have been to several areas ofWyoming but not your area yet. We were along the famous, or infamous I-80 corridor, from Cheyenne to Flaming Gorge. Also, we have been to Jackson, Tetons, Yellowstone, and the Bighorn Basin.

How are the winters there? I have heard that the winters are not as harsh there as they are in Wisconsin. Something about the chinook winds. Is this true?

Hi. We are from Kansas City. We were just up there in Newcastle, WY last week, visiting my in-laws. You do have a beautiful state. I mostly enjoy the wide-open space. Here we share a driveway with our neighbor, so are jammed inlike sardines.

I am a computer analyst, and my wife is asystems administrator. My software is developed for the ARMY for the past couple years. It is all for Win95 and Unix systems over at Ft.Leavenworth, KS.

I do not know where Riverton is. We have been to lots of places up there, even Red Lodge. We come up about 4 times each year to visit relatives in Newcastle, Custer and Rapid City.
